Amadeus immerses Sainte-Chapelle with Gloria install

Known for his avant-garde theatre works, US director Robert Wilson has created an immersive sound installation at the Sainte-Chapelle church in the heart of Paris.

The work, Gloria, marks half a century since Wilson’s Le Regard du Sourd in Nancy (1971) and the first Autumn Festival in Paris (1972). ‘We have a policy of inviting contemporary artists because heritage and creation must work together,’ says Philippe Bélaval, President of the Centre des Monuments Nationaux. ‘We felt that Bob’s perception of space, his mastery of sound and light could bring a lot to a monument.’

Autograph leads EM Acoustics into art immersion

Billed as London’s first permanent immersive digital arts experience, Frameless has opened its doors in Marble Arch on a magnificent 30,000sq-ft space that plunges visitors into a multisensory and multidimensional exploration of some of the world’s most iconic works of art.

Dan Higgott was responsible for the sound design, working with Autograph who handled the audio system integration and data networking used by both audio and video. Higgott’s brief was to design a physical sound system covering the entire site.

Capturing the sound of Greenland’s glaciers ‘calving’

A recent trip to East Greenland saw recordist Thomas Rex Beverly recording the sound of glaciers ‘calving’ – the process where chunks of ice break off from the front of the glacier to form icebergs. This is usually accompanied by loud cracking or booming sounds, whose level is determined by proximity to the glacier and the type of calving event taking place.

The venture made extensive use of Bubblebee Industries’ wind protection products.

Gärtnerplatztheater adopts Sennheiser digital mics

Able to trace its history back to 1865, Munich’s Gärtnerplatztheater stages performances from all areas of musical theatre, from musicals and modern operetta to revues. Its grand auditorium is a classical tiered theatre that can accommodate just under 900. There is also a foyer, which is occasionally used for musical events, and an orchestra rehearsal room that also serves as a location for chamber music performances and recitals. In addition, the rehearsal stage is sometimes used for chamber operas, and can accommodate up to 100 people.

Recently, the theatre made the transition to digital microphone technology from Sennheiser.

Autograph mounts up for Dragon Slayer spectacular

Autograph’s Special Events team recently provided the sound design and audio infrastructure for another Pixel Artworks production at one of England’s greatest castles.

A series of summer evening shows debuted a completely new format, turning Warwick Castle courtyard into a 360° immersive theatre seating audiences upwards of 2,000 each night. The Dragon Slayer tale was told by a first half of live action with actors and the horses of The Knights of Middle England, followed by a projection-mapped Act II, when Pixel Artworks’ brought the story and its fantastic beasts to life, projected onto the ancient castle walls while dragon fire and fireworks lit the night.
