BottleRock 2016: PA Systems Debuts

BottleRockTaking place for the fourth time in California’s Napa Valley, the BottleRock festival combines live music on multiple stages with the region’s tradition of wine, brewing and food.

Living Legend: The Return of Livingston

Livingston StudiosBefore expanding into, and later retreating from, additional premises in Guillemot Place, Livingston Recording Studios set up in 1960s London as a film dubbing studio with a nice turn in folk recording. Relocating to St Johns Hall in North London in 1980, it subsequently became one of London’s leading recording facilities.

In 2012 Livingston came under the Miloco studio umbrella, and has recently completed a refurbishment that puts it right back at the top.

Case Study: Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theatre

Tbilisi Opera and Ballet TheatreOfficially known as the Zakaria Paliashvili Tbilisi State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet, Georgia’s Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theatre has re-opened its doors following a comprehensive six-year refurbishment – including that of its audio infrastructure.

The project – which began in March 2013 – was handled by German systems integrator Salzbrenner media, and includes sound mixing, routing and comms.

Miking True Memoirs of an International Assassin

True MemoirsTrue Memoirs of an International Assassin stars Kevin James as an accountant who writes a book about a fictional killer-for-hire – which his publisher mistakenly prints and sells as a true story, thrusting him into a life of danger and hiding.

Necessarily, this involves helicopter and car chase scenes – often difficult for audio capture. For True Memoirs, the production team turned to DPA Microphones’ d:screet 4098 Supercardiod Microphone.

With areas of the internet awash with harsh criticism of Avid’s present business direction, I met with an Avid spokesperson to discuss the company’s position. A frank and healthy conversation later, we’d agreed to follow up for a post on F&W – with sight of copy before posting.

Having arranged the meeting, Avid’s PR agent then reported that he wasn’t ‘really in a position to comment’. After a promising start, the corporate ranks had closed…
