W6rst opens with Genelec
Renowned guitarist Tim Henson is a highly visible YouTuber, livestreamer and founding member of critically acclaimed progressive rock band Polyphia. When it came time for him to build a recording studio in his Dallas, Texas, home to serve as his main creative space (W6rst Studios), he considered various options before selecting one that would accommodate the studio design he had in mind.
‘When we were looking at plans to build a new house, I would ask, “do any of these plans have a media room or game room that’s large?” And the one that we came across was the only plan out of ten builders that had a room that was 27ft by 17ft, and I said, “okay, that’s a great sized room to have a desk and some monitors and a couch and a coffee table”.’
Wired Masters opens PMC Dolby Atmos mix room
A new studio facility has opened in South London that includes a Dolby Atmos music mixing room equipped with a PMC monitoring system.
The Atmos studio is the latest addition to Wired Masters, set up by Kevin Grainger with Cass Irvine in 2003, with the new facility designed and built by Mark Russell, of Recording Rooms, who worked closely with PMC’s Phil Millross to ensure the acoustics and monitoring system conformed to Dolby’s recommended reverb times, frequency response and SPLs.
Clair Global provides DiGiCo hub for Maluma world tour
Colombian-born and Latin Grammy Award-winning entertainer Maluma continues his Don Juan world tour in North American using a Clair Global Cohesion series PA system, as well as DiGiCo equipment, including SD-Racks, an Orange Box, DMI-Waves cards, and a complete Optocore network loop. The Quantum338 desks at both FOH and monitors are hubs for an audio infrastructure is performing at every show as flawlessly as the artist himself.
The adoption of the Quantum338 was a system-critical decision for the tour, says German Tarazona, who this year moved from mixing monitors to the FOH mix for Maluma (aka Juan Luis Londoño Arias).
Holoplot X1 Matrix Array in first outdoor live show
Marbella’s boutique Starlite Occident 2023 festival marked the first outdoor live show deployment of Holoplot’s X1 Matrix Array, through a collaboration between A/V specialist Ilusovi Servicios and Sound Architecture, Holoplot’s distributor for Spain and Portugal.
The system delivered unprecedented sound control and provided flawless coverage, including targeted audio for a VIP area, which had previously proven difficult to accommodate with a LR system.
Britannia Row rides out on First Aid Kit tour
First Aid Kit – aka Swedish musical duo, sisters Johanna and Klara Söderberg – are plaing their new album Palomino to audiences across the world with an audio package from Britannia Row.
The band’s close-knit team have welcomed Britannia Row Productions into their fold for some years now, with Production Manager Gareth Russell Russell putting this down, in part, is to the consistency the audio rental house provides. ‘Everyone’s hard work is appreciated by this artist, which is fantastic,’ he says. ‘The quality of crew that we have on this tour is in demand, so it’s testament to the artist that our people continue to make themselves available. Everybody really wants to be here.’
