The Satellite Tour saw three of Universal’s newest signings on the road in the UK with an SSL Live console.

Jim KingSons & Lovers, Eliza & The Bear and Fred Page set out on the 14-date tour with Cato Music’s FOH engineer, Jim King. Supplied by HD Pro Audio, the console was selected to meet specific requirements, which included a large number of outputs. King discussed the options with HD Pro’s Andy Huffer, and decided the SSL Live was the right choice.

Although new, its ease of operation also required only half a day’s training for King to operate with confidence: ‘When new consoles go on tour we expect a few phone calls regarding operation,’ Huffer says. ‘But we didn’t get any on this tour thanks to a good engineer and the logic of the interface that SSL has designed for the Live.’

‘It’s a truly suburb console,’ says King. ‘It’s very intuitive and quick to learn, but the outstanding feature is its audio quality. The sound is incredible and it’s really easy to get a great mix with very little effort.’

‘We follow every new product on tour closely’ Huffer adds. ‘This is both to support engineers and to fully assess the product when used and abused in the conditions it must endure on tour. The SSL came through with flying colours. It was stable and totally reliable under all conditions. And as Jim has said, it sets a new benchmark for live performance sound quality.’
