AC Entertainment Technologies (AC-ET) has upgraded the audio system upgrade at the the prestigious Roedean School in Brighton (UK), installing a system that includes an Allen & Heath mixing console and Traction Sound loudspeakers.

Roedean SchoolRoedean Theatre Technical Manager Ben Losh approached AC-ET’s Glen Thompson shortly for a new, discreet audio system that would provide even coverage, sufficient low end and vocal clarity for the school’s performance theatre. After evaluating the system requirements, Thompson recommended Traction Sound’s ‘long-throw’ Soft Dome Source (SDS) loudspeakers, and set up an on-site demonstration at Roedean’s Theatre, which was led by Traction Sound’s Shreddie Glew and Andy Pardoe. ‘Within minutes, I knew that I had to have this system,’ Losh says. ‘I was completely blown away by the capabilities of the speakers.’

Losh had also received demos from several other speaker manufacturers, concluding that ‘Traction Sound really stood out against the rest in terms of sound quality.’ Based on his criteria, ten Traction Sound speakers were specified for a system comprising six SDS 8i Gobis – four out front, and two for side fill; two SDS 6i Nibbler’s for front fill; and two BP 12 Cubs for low end.

Using Traction Sound’s proprietary SDS technology, both Gobi and Nibbler speakers offer an uncompressed, non-distorted output that throws to the back of the room. Losh was also pleased with the speakers’ discreet design, which he says are ‘perfect for this kind of install where equipment visibility should remain minimal.’

Included in the supply from AC-ET was an Allen & Heath iLive T80 mixing surface and iDR-32 MixRack, which was chosen for its intuitive and flexible control platform, ideal for any learning environment.

‘The new sound system has completely transformed the theatre -providing clear, even coverage across the room,’ Losh reports. ‘As a result the students’ workflow has improved.’
