Opened in 2022 and owned by San Diego State University, the 35,000-seat Snapdragon Stadium serves as a year-round sports and entertainment destination, and provides a hub for the local community. Home to SDSU Aztec Football, San Diego Wave FC of the National Women’s Soccer League, San Diego Legion of Major League Rugby and the newly announced MLS team, San Diego FC, the venue hosts a wide range of events, including concerts, festivals, motocross shows, international sports gatherings, community events, private and corporate events.
The stadium’s comms infrastructure is key to meeting the diverse needs of these events, and now relies on Clear-Com’s FreeSpeak II digital wireless system and Encore analogue partyline elements for a robust and reliable communication platform.
‘Many sporting teams, shows and concerts travel with Clear-Com equipment that can easily integrate into our house system,’ says AV & Broadcast Manager, Ceci Bacerra. ‘Their online portal makes it easy to configure for each event and specific needs that arise.’
In the control room, the deployment includes the Encore Main Station, a mix of four-channel and two-channel Remote Stations, and Encore Speaker Stations in U-Box. For remote beltpacks and interfacing needs, the venue relies on five Encore RS-701 Single Channel beltpacks and the Encore MT-701 for interfacing with external systems. The FreeSpeak II digital wireless system, comprising the FreeSpeak II-Base-II base station, transceivers, splitters and beltpacks, operates in the1.9GHz band to offer the necessary range and flexibility for beltpacks to roam anywhere in the facility, covering sidelines, the bowl, control room, locker rooms and dock areas.
