Working with integrator GVAV, Audiologic has delivered a versatile hybrid workspace at the University of Hertfordshire in the UK. The installation calls on Q-Sys audio, video and control technology for students’ learning, both those who are physically present and remote learning off campus.

Audiologic helps university achieve CDIO environment Recognising the need to adapt to evolving user demands, corporate and higher education institutions are presently transforming workspaces to offer greater flexibility. The University of Hertfordshire identified the outdated Prince Edward Hall lecture theatre as having the potential to become an optimal learning environment for in-person and remote studies. The project has provided a new multi-use learning space for a Conceive Design Implement Operate (CDIO) learning for individuals and groups of students.

The lecture theatre underwent a complete renovation, resulting in a new flat-floor space that prioritises audiovisual performance. This includes installing acoustic treatment on the walls and ceilings, to reduce the room’s RT60, as well as adding geometric LED lighting to rejuvenate the space.

‘We worked with Audiologic for the equipment supply and technical support on this project and Q-Sys quickly stood out as the clear choice to deliver on the clients brief due to the scalability and flexibility of the ecosystem,’ says GVAV Sales Director for London and the South East, Sukh Basi.

The project specification included Q-Sys audio, video and control system, complimenting a 4.8m NEC LED video wall and interactive displays. The video system comprises 12 Q-Sys NV-32-H software-configurable video endpoints and two NC-20x60 PTZ cameras, with control via custom UCIs on two TSC-70-G3 touchscreens. Due to the open format of the ceiling, the Q-Sys AD-P4T pendants were used to provide even coverage throughout the space. Assistive listening requirements are met by a Sennheiser’s Mobile Connect.

The NV-32-H (Core Capable) multipurpose, software-configurable video endpoints offer two distinct operating modes, based on the needs of the application. Core Mode transforms the device into a fully integrated Q-Sys processor with local HDMI switching capabilities, while Peripheral Mode allows multi-stream video encoding or decoding for network-based HDMI video distribution. Like all Q-Sys devices, the NV-32-H offers native integration and control driven by the Q-Sys OS, simplifying se-tup and configuration, and eliminating the need for advanced programming knowledge.

‘An all-Q-Sys end-to-end AVoIP deployment for the University brings comprehensive control to Prince Edward Hall, enhancing collaboration and engagement within the learning environment offering a practical solution for hybrid and remote learning requirements,’ Sukh Basi adds.

The user control interface on the TSC has been designed with ease of use in mind, enabling simple control over what is a fairly comprehensive system, allowing seamless presentation and content switching.

The result is an inviting and stimulating environment that supports collaborative learning in a contemporary manner. With fully controllable, high-quality audio, students can engage onsite or participate remotely with equal accessibility.
