With a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programmes and a commitment to academic excellence, faith-based learning and community service, Campbellsville University is a private Christian university in Kentucky. The university recently upgraded the audio system in the athletic centre swimming pool, using gear from Danley Sound Labs, Allen & Heath and LEA Professional.

The Powell Athletic Center includes a gymnasium for basketball and various fitness and recreational spaces, and houses all of Campbellsville’s athletic training staff offices, treatment, prehab, and rehab facilities with the swimming pool a key feature. The pool accommodates a variety of activities, including swimming meets, practice sessions for the university’s swim teams and local middle and high school swim teams, as well as open times for students and community members.

School staff contacted Alex Peake, Installation Lead at JCA Media, to remedy their problem. ‘We use LEA amps on many of our installs,’ Peake says. ‘The LEA Cloud allows me to log into the system, make changes when I’m not onsite, and keep an eye on my customers. LEA integrates well with everything else, so using them was a no-brainer.’

The new system at the university, founded in 1906, includes an Allen & Heath AHM-16 16x16 audio matrix processor paired with LEA Connect Series 702 amplifiers powering Danley GO2 8CX compact loudspeakers around the pool. School staff can connect to the amplifiers using their built-in Wi-Fi access point, the school’s Wi-Fi or LAN Ethernet cable.

As expected, swimmers and spectators were very pleased with the new system, citing a ‘night and day difference’ from the previous arrangement. Announcements and instructions were much more intelligible, eliminating the challenge of trying to understand what was being said.

‘We love LEA amps,’ Peake says. ‘They’re easy to use, and the team at LEA is great to work with.’
