Oxford-based WE Audio has expanded its inventory of Martin Audio MLA Compact and MLA Mini loudspeakers to meet growing demand for its use in open air/festival applications, while also increasing its system capabilities for large tours.

WE Audio was the first rental partner in the UK to invest in MLA Compact in 2013, and its most recent investment includes a further 12 MLA Compact boxes, bringing its stock to 36 elements. In addition, the purchase included four DSX-F Flying double 18-inch subs and four MLX Hybrid double 18-inch subs that will be used as ultra-sub extension and support dry hire market demands.

The order extended to an additional six MLA Mini enclosures, taking the company’s total stock to eight complete systems – a total of 32 MLA Mini elements and eight MLX single 15-inch subs. Twelve DD6s were also added to WE Audio inventory, to support corporate sector business.

WE Audio MD Wayne Barker has long favoured new technology adoption, and this comprehensive additional inventory continues to keep that reputation intact: ‘We specialise in providing site public address and noise abatement so we knew that having such a leading system would open up a lot of doors for us, and this has proven to be the case,’ he says.

After debuting the MLA Compact system as part of a dry hire solution for Hyde Park in 2013, it has gone on to shows and events in its own right, including Summer Pops at Buxton Opera House, Bristol International Balloon Fiesta, Bournemouth Air Festival, The London Marathon and most recently a UK and Europe tour with Rumer that featured both MLA Compact and MLA Mini.  ‘We received first-class service from WE Audio for the Rumer UK tour, with some tricky venues handled very nicely by their Martin Audio MLA systems,’ says FOH engineer, Mike Timms.

‘This investment is vital to round out our offering for larger venues, events and tours to include out fill, in fill and, on stage as side fill. Equally, our ability now to meet second stage requirements, alongside the demand of an increasing number of conference and corporate events that we supply, gives us added flexibility and revenue opportunity,’ says WE Audio Co Director, Rylan Machin.
