Having used on Soundcraft mixing consoles for more than a decade, Zhaoqing Radio has recently installed two Studer OnAir 2500 Modulo mixing consoles.

Zhaoqing RadioThe consoles for the Guangdong station were supplied by local Harman distributor ACE, and were installed in the two live studios that broadcast music and traffic information on the local radio.

The ‘Modulo’ version of the Studer OnAir 2500 console can be integrated within custom studio furniture and is highly modular in its design. It has separate modules for fader bays and master section, along with a rack-mount mainframe that can be recessed into a desktop with all cabling hidden within the furniture.

Each of Zhaoqing Radio’s consoles is equipped with 12 faders and a large number of inputs and outputs. According to ACE Technician Liang Ke Zhang, the goal was to eliminate audio distortion that had previously compromised its broadcasts and add clarity to the voices of radio hosts.  ‘We wanted low distortion and a wide but linear frequency range,’ he says. ‘The Studer OnAir consoles allow us to have clean sound that adds fullness to both male and female voices. To achieve this, the sound should have sufficient depth.’

As well as providing the renovated studios with a streamlined look, the new OnAir Modulo consoles have proven to be a huge improvement when in daily broadcasting operations. ‘The customers were surprised that the consoles add so much range and depth to the mix,’ Zhang says. ‘Overall, the network is very satisfied that Studer is able to deliver such a huge impact.’
