Kling & Freitag has added the PIA LFX to its PIA family of line arrays. LFX stands for Low Frequency Extension, and designates a loudspeaker that corresponds exactly to a PIA M in shape and size but is equipped with six 4-inch high-performance chassis and expands the frequency response of a PIA M down to about 50Hz.
‘The initial idea was simply to use an empty PIA M housing as an elegant stand in order to have a slim, visually appealing line-source speaker for demanding applications,’ Marco Kuhnmünch, Director of Sales & Marketing at K&F, explains. ‘Of course, the idea of equipping this housing with loudspeakers quickly came up.
‘Our developers had more work with it than we initially thought – after all, it’s not easy to generate sufficient LF-Performance from such a small volume with a relatively high level at the same time, but we finally managed to do it. PIA LFX turns our PIA M into a real full-range top with an extremely slim design and an elegant line source, and we’re really proud of that. Technically it’s impressive and in terms of sound we don’t need to shy away from any comparison with a big, chunky full blown full-range-loudspeaker.’
The Kling & Freitag PIA LFX low frequency extension can be mounted on an M20 thread using new accessories and is therefore compatible with any M20 base plate or subwoofer. An elegant connector enables a PIA M to be mounted on a PIA LFX in just a few simple steps. Due to the same dimensions, existing accessories for PIA M as well as existing cases can be used without any problems.
PIA LFX will be available from summer 2023 and will be available from the second quarter for the list price of €1,580 + VAT.
