Yamaha has announced the HS3 and HS4 active close-field studio monitors, extending a line that was first introduced in 2013 and ‘designed to deliver honest, precise reproduction, giving creators complete confidence that what they are hearing is a true representation of the sound’.

Yamaha HS3/HS4 active studio monitorsThe HS3 and HS4 offer the features of the HS series in a more compact form for creators who have limited space. Sold in pairs, they feature a high performance class-D power amplifier, housed in the left-hand loudspeaker. This links to the right-hand loudspeaker with a simple speaker cable connection.

The HS3 model employs a 3.5-inch driver and 0.75-inch soft dome tweeter, while the HS4 has a 4.5-inch driver and 1-inch soft dome tweeter. Yamaha’s proprietary Twisted Flare Port technology reduces air turbulence noise in the rear bass reflex port, providing clear and accurate bass.

The left loudspeaker’s rear panel includes stereo combination XLR/TRS phone, RCA and mini jacks, allowing connection to a wide range of professional and consumer equipment, plus three-way Room Control and High Trim switches to adjust the sound for any environment, such as reducing exaggerated low-end when placed close to walls. The level control, power on/off function and headphone jack are located on the front panel.

‘As the number and variety of content creators, editors and producers who rely on high quality audio continues to grow, there has been a clear demand for the audio quality and transparency of Yamaha’s HS series powered monitors to be available in a smaller, more easily transportable form,’ says Chris Irvine, Yamaha Product Manager. ‘With the HS3 and HS4, we are very happy to be able to satisfy that demand, while also offering them at a price point which is within reach of even the most budget-conscious creative.’

Available in a choice of black or white enclosures, the HS3 is priced at €249/£233 SRP per pair, and the HS4 at €289/£270 SRP per pair. All prices are ex-VAT.
