With more than 25,000 channels shipped since its 2015 launch, Rupert Neve Designs’ RNDI Active Transformer Direct Interface has found favour with many of the world’s most discerning musicians and engineers. The new RNDI-8 packages eight channels of this circuit into a single rack space for use in high-end stage rigs, studios and by synthesiser players.

Rupert Neve Designs’ RNDI-8The RNDI-8 comprises eight independent RNDI channels, providing instrument direct injection for electric guitar and bass, synthesiser, keyboard, piezo pick-up or any other instrument or line-level source. Its +48V phantom-powered discrete class-A topology is built around Rupert Neve’s custom transformers, resulting in outstanding sonic performance and extremely natural sound from 5Hz out to well beyond 90kHz. Each channel can handle input levels up to +21dBu (+31dBu with the -10dB pad engaged), the high input impedance ensures consistent performance across a wide variety of instruments, and the low impedance transformer-coupled output drives long lines with minimal loss.

‘The heart of our RNDI circuit is its custom-designed output transformer, which adds musically relevant harmonics that enhance the richness of the original signal and provide a distinctly musical response,’ the company says. ‘Coupled with giant headroom, wide bandwidth and unquestionable reliability, this unit has found its place in studios and on stages all over the world – and now in addition to the mono RNDI and stereo RNDI-S, we are happy to be able to provide an eight-channel solution with the RNDI-8.’

In addition to the eight standard Pin 1 Isolate switches on the rear panel, the RNDI-8 includes eight ground lift buttons on the front panel which separate each channel’s circuit ground (earth) from that of the chassis, providing another option to detect and eliminate unwanted ground hum.

The rugged 1U-high steel chassis is designed to provide a lifetime of use in the studio or on stage, and includes reversible rack ears for versatile mounting options.

The RNDI-8 is shipping worldwide, with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of US$1,999.
