Closed down as the Wechselbad der Gefühle (rollercoaster of emotions) in 2014, the Boulevard Theater Dresden opened in its place following a four-month renovation.

Boulevard Theater DresdenSpecialising in theatre, culture and live marketing, Dutch company TW.O took on the theatre’s operation and undertook a complete redesign of the auditorium with heavy financial investment in modernising the stage and theatre technology.

‘After many discussions with sound engineers and other competent professionals, we organised test set-ups with different systems,’ says Dan Becker, one of the directors of TW.O. ‘The performance of the Alcons systems and the professionalism of the Event-net made it an easy decision.

Technical service specialist Event-Net installed two arrays of six Alcons LR7 micro-pro-ribbon line arrays, each consisting of three 90° and three 120° systems, in the 500-seat large room of the theatre. Two 15-inch subwoofers BF151 low-frequency support were used for additional support, with all systems are driven by two ALC Sentinel3 four-channel Amplified Loudspeaker Controllers. For fill and/or monitor application, TS3 systems are also available.

As its name suggests, the Dresdner is an extremely versatile venue, and makes special demands on its sound reinforcement. ‘Since our programme is very diverse – with spoken theatre, musicals, concerts and singing – it was important to find a system that could handle this wide variety of applications without any weaknesses,’ says Olaf Becker of TW.O. ‘Personally, I appreciate the unobtrusive design and thereby unexpectedly powerful performance –speech intelligibility is excellent. Also, visiting artists notice the quality of the sound.’

Event-Net MD Kay Schöttner is equally confident: ‘With the Alcons system we have used the right professional tool at the right place.’

Equipped with modern technology and armed with fresh artistic ideas, the Boulevard Theater has quickly put itself on Dresden’s theatre map. In addition to new annual events, the theatre hosts performances from local, national and international artists.
