Having collaborated with FIFA to produce 8K images of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, NHK is claiming a ‘world first’ with its 120Hz frame 8K Super Hi-Vision camera. ‘The resulting images were clearer and smoother than those obtained by existing 60Hz frame frequency cameras,’ NHK says of the World Cup broadcast. ‘Viewers get a real sense of the fast-moving play and the thrill of when goals are made.’

Being shown at the IBC 2014, 8K provides 33 megapixel ultra high-definition images at a frame rate standardised for 120Hz, as well as 60Hz.
