The 2013 Glastonbudget tribute festival saw event production and rental company OneBigStar in action, once again. Central to the audio set-up was an RSG system that provided mixing, splitting, dropboxes and monitors.

Glastonbudget tribute festivalThe system comprised Roland Systems Group (RSG) M-480 and M-300 digital mixing consoles, an S-1608 stagebox and M-48 personal monitors serving the events’ live bands and acoustic sets.

Taking place in Wymeswold, Leicestershire, the festival presents the best in tribute bands and local music, with more than 100 performances taking place on four stages. For the first time, the 2013 event added an 80s theme day, with performances from Howard Jones, ABC, The Christians and Heaven 17.

‘Having used RSG products for the past few years at Glastonbudget, and also using the digital consoles day-to-day for our conference and corporate work, we knew that the M-480 and M-300 would give us superb sound quality as well as being easy to set up and use,’ says OneBigStar Director, Simon Taylor.

For the Big Top stage area, the console set-up was required to handle change-arounds with incoming engineers. OneBigStar chose two 48-channel M-480 digital consoles connected to an S-1608 stagebox with REAC (Roland Ethernet Audio Connection) splits at the stage end. Two engineers were then able to control monitors, FOH and the patchdeck from the M-480s

‘The intuitive interface of the M-480 makes it ideal where you have a number of different engineers as it is easy to get them up to speed very quickly on the desk,’ Taylor says..

On the main stage, Howard Jones bought his own system, which includes the Roland M-48 Live personal mixers used by his band. Ethercom running from the main stage to the M-300 at FOH enabled his engineer to patch in the band’s desk, and use the M-300 for controlling monitors and FOH. The M-48 offers musicians the flexibility to control what they hear during their performances, providing the high sound monitoring quality for both headphones and IEMs, as well as for wedge and powered monitors.

As part of the V-Mixing System, the M-300 provides a mixing capacity of 32 channels, eight aux buses and four matrices as a scalable solution for small- to medium-sized venues. The M-480 supports a wide range of venues and applications with a newly developed mixing engine providing a 4-band fully-parametric EQ, gate, compressor, and delay on each input channel, 214 patch points with 90 discreet outputs. Remote iPad Control apps are available for both the M-300 and M-480 making it possible to adjust the mixing parameters from a variety of listening points away from the fixed position of the console.

‘The RSG products offer us the flexibility and the sound quality that we need for a live event such as Glastonbudget and they perform time after time without any issues, making our job a lot easier,’ Taylor says.
