After making its UK debut at the BVE North show, Audio-Technica has announced the sale of the first two of its flagship AT5040 vocal microphone to film and TV audio supplier, Richmond Film Services.

‘We first learned about the AT5040 from an Audio-Technica emailshot following the microphone’s launch at AES in October, and I was immediately interested by the four rectangular diaphragm design’ says RFS MD Nigel Woodford. ‘I knew that there would be a great deal of interest in the microphone from our clients, so it wasn’t a difficult decision to invest in a pair. Richmond Film Services is increasingly active in the recording studio – as well as broadcast – hire market and I know many people will be keen to try the AT5040 in their search for the ultimate vocal mic.’

Woodford’s company has a long history with Audio-Technica – in addition to its extensive array of broadcast stereo mics, it was also an early purchaser of the AT4080 and AT4081 phantom-powered ribbon microphones in 2010. ‘We weren’t at all concerned about making the investment in the new AT5040 before we’d seen the mic,’ Woodford says. ‘Our existing Audio-Technica stock is in very regular use and we know the level of quality to expect with this new high-end model. We’re very much looking forward to receiving the microphones in the next few weeks and getting them into clients’ hands.’

‘We’re delighted that the UK’s first AT5040 microphones have been purchased by such a respected hire company,’ says Audio-Technica Senior UK Marketing Manager, Harvey Roberts. ‘The fact that RFS has decided to invest in the microphones sight unseen is a testament to Audio-Technica’s reputation for quality and innovative design.’
