Audio specialist Professional Audio Technology recently supplied Global Television with a Lawo 64-fader mc2 56 console with a Nova HD core router, various Dallis I/O boxes and a DirectOut Technologies M1K2 router for the new Australian season of Big Brother on Channel 9.

Big BrotherThe mc2 56 mixing console, which comprises two separate fader bays – one with 48 faders and control and the other with 16 faders – was delivered to Global’s Sydney HQ for testing and configuration before being shipped to Dreamworld on the Gold Coast in preparation for the broadcast. Global made the decision to purchase the console specifically for Big Brother after assessing which technology would best suit the demands the show places on the technical crew and the equipment.

‘The decision was made to go with Lawo’s mc2 technology as it was the best fit for our and the clients technical requirements on this specific project,’ confirms Global Technical Services Manager, Milan Milenkovic. ‘In addition to this, the fact that most operators in Australia understand the Lawo technology is another big plus for us.’

Along with the console, Professional Audio Technology also supplied a DirectOut M1K2 router, four DirectOut ExBoxes and two BFE protocol converters to integrate the Lawo Nova73 HD core to a Talia Vision router which Global will use. ‘The DirectOut Technologies M1K2 router provided us with an additional router and extra I/O for the Lawo system and was a fantastic addition to the already powerful system,’ Milenkovic explains.

‘Of course, we are very happy that Global has chosen us to supply Lawo and DirectOut equipment for such a high-profile job once again,’ says Professional Audio Technology’s MD Patrick Salloch. ‘Both manufacturers were able to meet the very strict delivery timelines and we even sent our Technology Specialist Alan Liddelow to the Lawo factory to be present during factory testing of the system and to make sure everything was on schedule.’

‘After Big Brother, the console is most likely to be used in one of our production studios in Sydney or part of our large fly-away kit,’ Milenkovic adds.
