India to switch off analogue cable TV

The India Government is shaping up to introduce mandatory digitalisation of cable television.

The Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Amendment Bill 2011, piloted by the information and Broadcasting Ministry, is set to see India’s cable sector migrate to digital operation by 31 December 2014, with digitalisation of cable television in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata by 30 June 2012. he next target will be cities with a population exceeding 1m. The goal is to have phased out analogue cable TV by the end of 2014.
