Bangkok’s El Santo restaurant and bar occupies three spaces, each with its defining requirements that are reflected in their audio needs – which a recent an Optimal Audio installation now addresses.

Dropped in to work alongside existing equipment rather than replace it all, central to the lively Mexican-themed venue is an Optimal Audio Zone 8P, an eight-zone audio controller with onboard DSP and eight channels of integrated 100W amplification, acting as both the routing hub and the power source for the venue.

Bangkok’s El SantoThe Zone 8P allocates sources independently across the venue’s zones and giving each space its own mix, level and EQ. Four stereo line inputs, two mic inputs and two HDMI inputs, provide the connectivity needed to handle everything from a streaming playlist to a live microphone. With amplification built in, the Zone 8P drives the bar directly without the need for a separate amplifier.

Day-to-day control runs through Optimal Audio’s WebApp, allowing staff to adjust levels or switch sources from a phone or tablet behind the bar. No technical knowledge is required, and the deeper configuration stays locked away for the integrator. Programmable presets set for particular times of day mean the venue can shift from lunch to evening to late-night automatically, without anyone touching the controls.

In the all-day dining room, the priority is intelligible, even BGM that respects conversation levels. The Zone 8P keeps this zone at a comfortable, consistent level throughout the day, drawing on the venue’s existing loudspeakers.

The semi-outdoor terrace poses its own requirements. As an open space with no walls to contain the sound, independent zoning here allows the terrace to run its own source and level entirely separately from the rooms either side of it. The late-night bar is where the venue changes character, and where Optimal Audio does the heavy lifting directly.

Three Optimal Audio Cuboid 8 loudspeakers, powered by the Zone 8P cover the bar area. The Cuboid 8 is a compact two-way passive speaker with an 8-inch driver and rotatable HF horn giving consistent 90° dispersion – just three cabinets cover a busy bar evenly rather than leaving loud and quiet pockets. The Cuboid 8’s compact wooden enclosure keeps the hardware discreet in a design-led space where the visual identity does the talking. A single Optimal Audio Sub 10 anchors the low-end for the DJ sets. With the three Cuboid 8s above it, the bar holds a full crowd through to last orders without ever sounding pushed.

El Santo now runs as a single, unified system: relaxed over lunch, easy on the terrace at golden hour, and full-energy in the bar after dark. Each space functions as it needs to, managed from one intuitive interface.
