One of Southwest China’s most prominent floral and cultural events the Dianjiang Peony Culture Festival attracts thousands of visitors annually – and in 2026 added further momentum to its tourist appeal with a star-studded concert at Dianjiang County Stadium supported by a Martin Audio sound system.
Dianjiang’s peony story spans nearly 2,000 years, dating to the Han Dynasty – the region being noted for its wild peonies, which grow naturally on mountainsides. The festival has become a showcase for both the blooms and the local culture surrounding them.
With an expanded programme and ‘Wellness & Health’ focus, the 2026 festival ran for three months from March to May. Daytime flower viewing is complemented by a diverse calendar of activity, including sports events such as the Peony Marathon and triathlon, food festivals, arts exhibitions and this year’s Peony Festival Concert featuring nationally recognised music stars including Zhang Xinzhe (known internationally as Jeff Chang), Yu Wenwen (Kelly Yu), Huang Pinyuan and Xianzi.
For main PA, the concert used 36 Martin Audio WPL Wavefront Precision line array loudspeakers, flown as 18 cabinets per side. Out fill in the stadium was provided by a Martin Audio W8LC system, with LR hangs comprising 12 elements per side.
A further W8LC system was used for delays – optimised using Martin Audio Display software – and configured as two flown hangs of 12 elements, combined with four groundstacked array boxes per side. For the front-row audience area, a W8LM front fill system, featuring wide and consistent 120° dispersion, was set as six stacks of two elements.
Low-frequency reinforcement came from a total of 44 groundstacked Martin Audio WS218X dual 18-inch, ultra-long-excursion subwoofers, delivering the physical impact required for a stadium-scale pop concert.
