A recent modernisation project has seen dBTechnologies loudspeakers installed in a new aula space at the Van Maerlant Lyceum Eindhoven in the Netherlands, to meet a variety of uses ranging from music performances to speech applications.
The goal was to create a flexible, user-friendly space suited to both professional and community use. In the auditorium, this was challenging and required careful planning. The Lyceum wanted to use its hall as a professional theatre, so the set-up needed to accommodate a variety of user groups. Where professional technicians required full control over the system, students need to be able to use the space with ease. This sat alongside equipping the hall with stage sets, additional lighting and stage curtains.
Whether for musical performances, presentations or school events, the system had to deliver on clarity, coverage and adaptability without complexity in operation. The installation was carried out by Dutch A/V integrator GISB Audiovisueel, in collaboration with the dBTechnologies team.
GISB’s response was a system comprising two main hangs of a single VIO S115 flyable subwoofer for the main front-of-house with five VIO X206 compact two-way speakers for even sound distribution throughout the gallery and two VIO X205 as delays.
To facilitate simple operation, the GISB team created presets that users can call up via a tablet control system, which also sets the PA system for the respective use.
‘Thanks to the compact design and powerful performance of the VIO-series, the system provides excellent speech intelligibility and musical depth,’ says Roel van Gisbergen, A/V specialist at GISB Audiovisueel. ‘This combination gives the venue great flexibility for all kinds of events, from intimate talks to live music.’
The installation was fine-tuned using Aurora Net, dBTechnologies’ network control software, which allowed detailed alignment and the creation of dedicated the presets for various event types. ‘We optimised the system for both music and speech scenarios, ensuring a natural and balanced sound experience in every set-up,’ adds Roel.
