Wolff Audio has announced its acquisition of Pulse Techniques (Pultec), the company renowned for its faithful recreations of the legendary Pultec equalisers.
Steve Jackson, owner of Pulse Techniques, has been preparing for retirement and personally selected Wolff Audio founder Paul Wolff as the ideal steward for the company’s future.
‘After years of building Pulse Techniques back into a world-class brand, it was important for me to find the right person to carry the torch,’ he says. ‘I couldn’t think of anyone better than Paul Wolff,’ said Jackson. ‘Paul’s reputation for design excellence and his deep respect for audio history give me complete confidence that the Pultec legacy will be preserved and expanded.’
Wolff Audio views Pulse Techniques as a ‘prestigious and highly synergistic’ brand within its portfolio. While Wolff Audio is acquiring Pulse Techniques, the company emphasised that Pulse will continue to operate as a separate entity, maintaining its identity and product line. Production will remain in Fort Collins, Colorado, with the same experienced staff building the gear to the uncompromising standards that engineers and producers around the world rely on.
‘Pulse Techniques is a crown jewel in the history of professional audio,’ says Paul Wolff. ‘We are honoured to help carry its legacy forward. By keeping production in Fort Collins with the same skilled team, customers can expect the exact same quality and authenticity they’ve always known, now with Wolff Audio’s support and resources behind it.’
‘As both a long-time user and admirer of Pultec EQs, I couldn’t be more excited to welcome Pulse Techniques into the Wolff Audio family,’ adds Jay Porter, CEO of Wolff Audio. ‘Pultec’s have always ranked among my favourite pieces in the studio, and it’s an honour to ensure they remain available to engineers and producers around the world.’
Founded in the 1950s and revived by Steve Jackson in the 2000s, Pulse Techniques has faithfully recreated the legendary Pultec equalisers, regarded as some of the most musical and enduring tools in audio history. This acquisition marks a major step in Wolff Audio’s growth, while ensuring that the Pulse Techniques legacy will continue for the foreseeable future.
