Attracting around 15,000 electronic music fans to Croatia each year, the MoDem psytrance festival has spawned teaser parties in cities like Berlin, Madrid and Amsterdam to offer fans a preview of the the main event. A three-day event held outside Mexico City relied on a BassBoss loudspeaker system this year delivered 60 hours of high-impact sound in a rugged, open-air environment.
‘We had the full BassBoss system ready in just under two hours, with about 90 minutes for the main rig and another 30 minutes for monitors,’ says Galder Morán, the event’s lead live sound engineer. ‘No external DSP or tuning was needed. Onboard presets gave us fast, consistent, full-range sound. It’s a big system, but it’s built to move. We had it stacked and running faster than expected, and it sounded great right away.’
Throughout the weekend, the system proved its reliability and ease of use during continuous performances. ‘We ran nonstop for 60 hours at nearly full capacity, straight from the box – no failures, no fuss,’ Galder reports. ‘Many DJs who were experiencing BassBoss for the first time told me they were blown away by the clarity and stereo image.’
The Mexico City set-up featured 12 active loudspeakers in a 2.1 live configuration. Each side of the main stereo array used the Stackatoa system – a vertical combination of the Kraken-Mk3 Quad 21-inch Powered Subwoofer, Makara-MK3 Double 21-inch powered sub and Krakatoa Quintuple 18-inch point-source full-range loudspeaker. A centre fill array of ZV28-MK3 double 18-inch powered subs and DV12-Mk3 single 12-inch powered loudspeakers ensured balanced coverage, while AT212-MK3 Dual 12-inch active loudspeakers provided clear onstage monitoring for DJs.
