The US company behind the world’s first operating system for your ears, CosmOS, has announced the acquisition of key assets from Hue Hearing, a hearing solutions company renowned for its deep understanding of individuals with hearing difficulties. Sonical’s acquisition supports the company’s ambition to ‘drive forward the next generation of intelligent audio wearables’ (Headphone 3.0).

SonicalSonical aims for ‘seamless delivery from cloud to end product’ with CosmOS, targeting a spread of applications including work, communication, health and music/audio. Headphone 3.0 allows headphones function like smartphones, to offer personalised, app-enabled audio experiences via the open CosmOS platform.

For its part, Hue Hearing has built a substantial customer base of people seeking accessible and effective hearing solutions and, through ongoing engagement, identified an opening where customers were looking for more than basic sound amplification in the form of smart, adaptive and customisable hearing technology that Hue Hearing and Sonical’s CosmOS were well placed to address.

‘Our customers have consistently asked for more than traditional hearing aids offer – they want smarter, more responsive and personalised control of their hearing,’ says Hue Hearing CEO, Andre Lavell. ‘Partnering with Sonical and integrating the CosmOS platform enables us to deliver truly intelligent hearing enhancements to the people who need it most.’

The acquisition provides Sonical with valuable consumer insight, product and technology requirements, and distribution capabilities to support the development and launch of new hearing enhancement products powered by CosmOS.

‘Hue Hearing has cultivated a strong and trusted relationship with a significant number of people underserved by today’s hearing solutions,’ says Sonical CEO, Gary Spittle. ‘Integrating their knowledge and experience into our ecosystem is a vital step in making Headphone 3.0 not only innovative but accessible to all.’
