Chinese pop singer Lars Huang has risen to fame through his passionate musical style, with his recent tour, Fun! Only, a celebration of video game and digital culture – requiring fans to ‘level up’ to get the most out of the experience. For their levelling up, the audio team opted for a DiGiCo Quantum 852 console at FOH position and a Quantum 338 for monitors.
The Fun! Only album sold more than 100,000 copies in under 24 hours and his social media following has made him China’s biggest stars on Weibo, the county’s most popular social media platform. With crowds exceeding10,000 people in each venue of the tour, the consoles were supplied by DiGiCo distributors in China, RAC Pro. ‘The tour is all about letting every audience member really enjoy the music,’ Li Wenhao, Senior Product Manager of RAC, Technical support for the Fun! Only tour explains.
‘We insist upon using only the very best equipment, and the Quantum 852 delivers excellence for us. The Quantum 338’s compact design and highly efficient signal processing capabilities provides clear and accurate monitor feedback for all performers. It has been a great pairing.’
The Quantum 852 is equipped with five, seventh-generation FPGA processing chips, and the latest SHARC DSP, making it the most powerful andflexible console that DiGiCo has designed to date.
Lars Huang spreads his appeal as an artist, singing in Mandarin, English and Cantonese. His music and his ethos are all about creating a deep connection with his audience, and he embraces a diverse spectrum of genres, from electronica to hip-hop and all stops in-between. Elevating the complex sonic arrangements is made possible by the layout of the Quantum 852. With 384 input channels, 192 aux/sub group buses and two DMI slots per engine, the Quantum 852 has an answer for every requirement.

The Fun! Only kanji (除了快乐禁止入内) also translates as ‘without happiness, no entry’, so delivering a fun and happy experience for the audiences is high on the list of priorities for the touring team.
‘With DiGiCo, sound breaks free from the constraints of physical distance, it is no longer just a concept, but becomes something that we can touch and feel,’ Li Wenhao, says. ‘Our DiGiCo consoles can handle whatever we throw at them, offering better mixing flexibility, and keeping up with the unique style and positive energy of Lars and his countless fans.’
