The Ecstatic Music Art Studios recording facility has opened in Dubai. Although it is aimed primarily at a professional clientele, it will also welcome up-and-coming artists with services including mixing and mastering.

Ecstatic Music Art StudiosPart of its design is based around acoustic treatment kits from US specialist Primacoustic. UAE Primacoustic distributor Melody House has supplied the studio with two London 12 kits.

One of four options in the London range, the kit claims to contain ‘everything you need to convert a regular room into a functional recording environment’. ‘The London 12s are an ideal kit for smaller rooms, with two bass traps and near reflection absorbers,’ says Melody House Acoustics Specialist, Simon Short. ‘It solves most acoustical issues in one box.’

Designed for rooms that measure between 100sq-ft to 200sq-ft (10-20m2), the London 12 kit provides a variant of the live-end, dead-end (LEDE) approach, where the loudspeaker end of the room is made anechoic in order to eliminate room interference while the listening end provides a more ambient and comfortable environment.

The kit comprises a selection of 22 Broadway panels, each of which is designed to address particular problems common to most rooms – eight 12-inch x 48-inch Control Columns help tame side-to-side flutter echo and attenuate powerful near-wall reflections, while 12 12-inch x 12-inch Scatter Blocks reduce front-to-back flutter echo and provide Soft Diffusion, a cost-effective means of controlling ambient reverb without overly deadening the room. Bass trapping is managed by two 24-inch x 48-inch broadband absorbers are corner-mounted for maximum low-frequency attenuation to help reduce modal distortion and room resonance.
