Established by entrepreneur Luke Davis and art curator Eden Maseyk, the new Helm Gallery has opened in Brighton’s North Laine, where an extensive display of contemporary art is complemented by a Void Acoustics loudspeaker installation.

The new Helm Gallery in Brighton’s North Laine,Occupying 7,000sq-ft feet over two floors, the multi-purpose arts space hosts art events; ‘sip and paint’ classes; and exclusive exhibitions from local and worldwide artists, as well as offering a dynamic social space where a resident DJ performs every weekend.

Marquee AV was appointed to provide a stylish, high-end music system that would enhance the art focus of the space –which is bright and modern with fixtures and fittings blending into the surround, allowing pieces to ‘pop’ from their setting. Marquee AV reckoned that Void Acoustics would answer the brief, not only with quality of sound, but with the distinctive white fibreglass enclosures matching the gallery surrounds. The sound system also needed to be versatile, helping to create the perfect ambience for day or night-time events, including exhibitions and parties.

Void Acoustics installation at the Helm Gallery in Brighton‘Void Acoustics were the perfect fit for the aesthetic and atmosphere of this great new art gallery,’ explains Marquee AV MD, Mark Brown. ‘Void’s ultra-compact Cyclone 4s were ideal for the architectural design of the space, as well as producing fantastic sound quality. We were so pleased to have the opportunity to work on this unique location.’

A cleverly designed ‘hybrid’ bar offers cocktails and craft beers for visitors and art collectors to enjoy while appreciating the art around them, as well as the audio from the Void system. With a clear project specification, the installation was a smooth and efficient process and the team ensured that the Cyclone 4s were positioned to offer optimal sound distribution, while also being visually appealing to match the stylish, modern architecture of the space. The punchy, design-led Cyclones are supported by Venu 112 V2 subwoofers for bass support, all set into the walls to maintiain the gallery’s aesthetic.

‘The addition of audio helps to bring the art, and our vision for Helm Gallery to life,’ says Gallery co-founder, MD and curator, Eden Maseyk. ‘The team at Marquee AV were incredible and the sound system they have installed sounds beautiful – it sets the tone perfectly for our gallery. For our evening events, the audio helps elevate the experience for our guests – the Void speakers really are perfect.’
