Following its first full board meeting, the ACETA industry body for the Australian commercial and entertainment technologies sector identified six key priorities for the immediate future:

• Addressing conformity: the ACMA is currently seeking submissions with regard to combing A Tick, C Tick and other electrical safety compliance regimes. The board voted to support the combined move on condition that the new system was effectively policed.
• Industry statistics: a review is underway of what data is currently available and to develop a process which will deliver reliable industry statisics.
• Wireless audio: following discussions with the Australian Music Association, management of AWAG (the Australian Wireless Audio Group) will move to ACETA, being the body which has the technical expertise, whilst remaining in partnership with the AMA.
• Industry training and education: the existing courses will be mapped to identify what subjects are offered and what the gaps are; there will be consultation with the universities about industry needs; and there will be discussions with the Commonwealth Government about grants and better meeting the needs of industry.
• Current trade show and events schedule: consult with members and visitors about how they have found the events schedule this year, what they would like to see in the future, and consult with the event organisers.
• Industry guidelines: developing a code of conduct for members which will become a trust mark for customers.

‘It’s a challenging action plan and we are very aware that as a new organisation we need to walk before we can run, so we have prioritised these six key areas as being where the most urgent action is needed,’ said ACETA Prsident. Frank Hinton. ‘Sub committees have been formed where needed and will shortly be consulting with members for their input. We look forward to reporting on progress shortly.’

ACETA – the Australian Commercial & Entertainment Technologies Association – was formally established at its first AGM on 6 June 2011.
