Composer/engineer Mike Hayes recently installed a Carl Tatz Design PhantomFocus PFM HD-1000 Master Reference Monitor System in his new Ear Shock Music studio in Atlanta, Georgia.

Studio owner Mike Hayes and Lead PhantomFocus Installation Engineer Adam David SmithHayes had become accustomed to the high-resolution, accuracy and imaging of the PhantomFocus System (PFS) over several years in his original Carl Tatz Design Nashville studio, Ear Candy. After selling the Nashville facility to a new owner, he decided to upgrade to the PhantomFocus PFM HD-1000 Master Reference Monitor System for his recent self-installed room in Atlanta.

The PFM HD-1000 is a passive close-field monitor in a low-profile D’Appolito design facilitating console/listener placement. With accelerated response time, phase linearity and tightly controlled mid-bass response, the PFM HD-1000 promises accuracy and non-fatiguing performance beyond that of traditional high- and mid-frequency driver motor capability. It features two proprietary Morel 5.63-inch (143.51mm) Uniflow aluminium diecast woofers with large 3-inch voice coils and a proprietary 1-inch (23.4mm) ScanSpeak tweeter with patented phase plug design.

‘I had a PhantomFocus System in my home studio in Nashville and now, having moved to Georgia, I wanted the same incredible experience and more in my new home studio with the new PFM HD-1000 Monitor System,’ Hayes comments. ‘Carl’s systems are the best.’
