Among the first Tiktok Sound Kit partners, Audius is a decentralised music sharing/streaming service using the Ethereum blockchain-based software platform that supports direct transactions between music creators and listeners. Recently notching up 5m monthly active users, the 100,000-plus artists subscribed to Audius are now ‘one click away’ from reaching TikTok’s estimated 1bn-plus users.

Audius becomes Tiktok Sound Kit partnerSet up by co-founders Roneil Rumburg (who co-founded a Bitcoin peer-to-peer payment company Backslash) and Forrest Browning (who co-founded enterprise data centre management platform StacksWare), Audoius is an alternative to Spotify or SoundCloud, Audious aim is to make the monetisation of art and music ‘fairer in the digital age’.

Describing the move as providing ‘a synergistic product integration that will allow musicians to share their work across both platforms effortlessly’, co-founder and Chief Product Officer Browning says: ‘We’re proud to be one of the earliest launch partners for TikTok Sounds and to give the artists on Audius a chance to increase their exposure even more. We have a great community and we’re thrilled to give them easy access to share their music to TikTok Sounds.’

That rosta of artists includes Skrillex, Weezer, deadmau5, Russ, Mike Shinoda, Diplo, Madeintyo, Odesza, Disclosure, Alina Baraz and Wuki.

‘Artists can get in their own head and feel like they’re stuck – I think that having all of these new avenues is amazing for creativity,’ says Wuki, an artist/producer who boasts more than 400,000 followers and 5.6m likes on TikTok. ‘Knowing that any track has the potential to pop off motivates me to be more productive and keep grinding.’

The process of linking the two platforms involves uploading a track to Audius and clicking Share to Tiktok. Tracks can then be played behind their own videos and are available to be selected across the entire TikTok user community.

TikTok Sounds is available on desktop and mobile.
