China’s Xiking Culture Media and UK facilities operation Soho Data Holdings are to jointly establish a creative video and TV industries data centre in London. The agreement – said to be worth £10m (US$15.7m) – was witnessed by UK Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, and China’s Deputy Premier, Li Keqiang.

Located in in London’s Soho, the facility will be equipped to support the latest technology demands for the video animation, 3DTV and Internet TV industries, and will offer a complement of data centre services, including co-location through managed services to high-yield computational capacity, able to support state-of-the-art rendering applications.

‘This deal establishes a bridge between China and the UK for the development of exciting new business opportunities,’ said Ye Maoxi, President of Xiking Culture Media.

The announcement builds on the significant developments made by Chinese broadcasting during 2010.
