TGI Fridays' DAS Audio installationMalaysia’s restaurant industry is increasingly aware of the worth of investing in its sound installations. As one of the country’s largest multi-concept operators, ChasWood Resources has recently installed new systems at several venues, including Laundry, Italiannies, Malones, and TGI Fridays.

Responsible for the consultation, design and installation of these systems, as well as system maintenance and mixing for live and special events, ChasWood sound engineer Felix Paul is well placed to explain their preference for DAS Audio. ‘Located at The Curve in Mutiara Damansara, Laundry is a popular gathering spot with an emphasis on music –both live and background/DJs,’ he begins. ‘For this venue, we used two DAS Audio RF-15.64 passive/active two-way loudspeakers atop two Compact 218 subwoofers per side for the mains and, for stage monitoring, there are four MI-112N 2-way, full-range loudspeaker enclosures. DAS Audio H-3000 and H-4000 power amps, plus two PS-800 amps drive the system, while a DAS DSP-26 processor handles loudspeaker management tasks.

‘Like Laundry, the loudspeaker system at Italiannies handles both live and background music,’ he continues. ‘This system uses two DAS Audio Artec 28 two-way passive loudspeakers at the bar with eight Artec 26 two-way enclosures completing the set-up. Stage monitoring is handled by two MI-112N loudspeakers. Six DAS Audio PS-800 power amps drive the system.’

Malones @Sooka Sentral in Kuala Lumpur sports an Irish theme and, here too, both live and background music are central to the restaurant’s ambience. ‘At Malones we have four DAS Artec 8 passive loudspeakers covering the outdoor area. Indoors we installed Avant 12A, two-way, powered loudspeakers, with two MI-112N loudspeakers for stage monitoring. We have a combination of two DAS PS-800 and one PS-400 power amp driving the Artec loudspeakers.

‘At Menara Hap Seng in Kuala Lumpur, TGI Fridays has a DAS system comprised of four Artec 25 around the top of the bar plus four Arco 4 loudspeakers in the surrounding outdoor area,’ he says. ‘For low-end reinforcement, we installed six DAS Arco 12 subwoofers throughout the ceiling area. Eight DAS Audio CL-6TB ceiling loudspeakers cover the indoor dining area. Four DAS PS-800 and two PS-400 power amps drive the loudspeakers. This system handles both background music as well as DJ performances.

‘We get excellent coverage throughout, and the loudspeakers’ ability to reproduce music sounds very natural,’ he concludes. ‘I’ve also been very pleased with DAS Audio’s customer/technical support. All the equipment is well made and is working perfectly. Our customers have been very complimentary, and that’s always good for business.’
