Play Deep StudiosPlay Deep Studios is new boutique recording studio in London’s Kings Cross.

The studio is the culmination of a two-and-half-year project for owner and engineer, Canadian-British DJ Zachary Spider ‘Spydabrown’ Brown-Smith, and features the UK’s only Otari 54 Series 36 mixing desk as its centrepiece. Additionally, there is a 12-channel analogue TL Audio Tubetracker console, while monitoring options include PMC DS-001, Focal Twin G and Cerwin Vega 18-inch subs. Mic preamps and outboard includes Neve Channel Strips, equipment from Eventide, Focusrite, TC Electronic and Aphex, and mics from the likes of Calrec, Shure, Sennheiser, AKG, Røde and Flea.

Designed and built by Spydabrown’ and his personal tech, Van Damme cabling has been used throughout – a variety of types including Black Tourgrade, Blue Series, Green Digi Series and VD Video Coax – all supplied by VDC Trading along with assemblies and connectors.

‘I was recommended Van Damme cable, with everyone saying it is the best, and I must say I have not been disappointed,’ Spydabrown says. ‘The team at VDC Trading did a great job of keeping me supplied.’

Play Deep is intended to be a cosy, chic recording facility, and features three well-equipped studio rooms, each with its own vocal booth and shared access to a live area. Clients may create customised rental packages, and will have access to a wide selection of instruments and keyboards. It also offers comfortable writing rooms, a full kitchen and convenient access to King’s Cross St Pancras.
