Vietnam has set itself a deadline of 2020 to complete its migration to digital broadcasting.
Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Le Nam Thang has announced that the move to the DVB-T2 terrestrial digital TV standard will also see the expansion of digital terrestrial television to include high-quality TV services, such as HDTV and 3DTV. The migration is to be staged to bring digital terrestrial TV to 60 per cent of the population by 2015.
Under the scheme – which has now been approved by Prime Minister Nguyễn Tấn Dũng – the Vietnamese Government will provide subsidies to ensure that all households are able to purchase terrestrial digital TV receivers.
