The annual Plan of Work used by Ofcom – the UK regulator for communications – includes a Call for Input on the future spectrum needs of the Programme Making and Special Events (PMSE) sector – an important opportunity to gather data and ensure the industry’s collective voice is heard. British Entertainment Industry Radio Group (BEIRG) is committed to this cause, and is calling for support.
The PMSE sector relies on this spectrum 24/7, and access to it is under continued scrutiny pending future changes to digital terrestrial TV (DTT). Ofcom’s review will look at the future of UHF spectrum (470MHz-694MHz) and PMSE’s use of it, with decisions soon to be made based on this work.
BEIRG is an independent non-profit dedicated to supporting everyone involved in producing, distributing and enjoying content that relies on radio spectrum in the UK.
The organisation campaigns for the protection of PMSE spectrum, essential for wireless production tools like microphones and in-ear monitors, which play an essential part in everything from TV and film to live music, sports, radio and theatre.
The group is looking to manufacturers, freelancers, rental companies, production companies, venue, promoters and producers working in live music, TV and film, theatre, corporate events, news, sports and education for their input.
‘Please use your voice by emailing us to contribute your expertise to BEIRG’s response, so that we can accurately reflect the scale, breadth and diversity of our PMSE Sector in our response to Ofcom,’ the organisation says. ‘Please tell us (confidentially) who you are, what you do and in what context you are affected by spectrum access and planning.’
