Sentul International Convention Center (SICC) was the Indonesia stop on Justin Bieber’s My World Tour, where Jakarta-based DSS Rental Company provided the sound reinforcement.

Justin BieberThe 11,000-capacity SICC is Indonesia’s largest indoor concert facility but offers a challenging acoustic environment. DSS previously handled sound for guitarist Slash’s Indonesian tour and also handled Australian pop singer Kyle Minoque’s appearance at the SICC – all events using DAS Audio loudspeaker systems.

‘For this concert we used 32 DAS Audio Aero-3 line array elements,’ says Donny Hardono, owner of DSS and a recognised figure among the region’s music industry. ‘These were flown in four clusters, each with eight elements. We had the left and right FOH mains, which were augmented by two additional clusters, one each on the extreme sides, or out fills. Due to the characteristics of this venue, we used outfield speakers to provide greater horizontal coverage. This arrangement enabled us to accommodate the right/left outer wings of the audience.’

For the left and right fills, as well as centre fill, the DSS crew also flew 18 DAS Aero 12A powered, mid-high line array elements. These loudspeakers were arranged in three clusters of six elements each. For loudspeaker processing, two DAS Audio DSP-4080 processors and one DAS Audio DSP-2060 processor were placed into service.

‘We had plenty of low-frequency support for this event as well as an impressive stage monitor setup,’ Hardono reports. ‘We used 18 DAS LX-218A powered subwoofers. These were ground stacked with nine enclosures on the left and another nine units on the right. For stage monitoring, we placed 12 DAS Avant 12A powered, two-way enclosures. Completing the monitoring set-up, we used two additional LX218A subwoofers for sidefills, with one enclosure per side.’

With a total of seven line array clusters – the four eight-element Aero 38 hangs plus the three six-element Aero 12A clusters – there was a plenty of sound. This arrangement was a new experience for Bieber’s FOH Engineer Gordon Mack, who commented, ‘We’re all ready to rock baby!’

‘We’ve received numerous compliments,’ Hardono says. ‘We’ve received compliments from everyone. The system performed perfectly and the result was one very satisfying concert.’
