South African sports broadcaster SuperSport recently worked with UK-based system integrator Broadcast Solutions to replace the control system of an existing OB truck with a new control tool – hi human interface.

SuperSport is the largest sports broadcaster in Africa, providing coverage for the majority of televised sporting events in South Africa, and also providing multiple channels of sports content as part of MultiChoice Africa. This is the first of several planned installations of hi human interface across the SuperSport OB fleet in the next 12 months. This will allow SuperSport to be more flexible in terms of workflows, future IP production technologies and equipment development.

SuperSport incorporates hi human control into OBA subsidiary of Multichoice, SuperSport is currently operating a mix of old and new equipment in OB 3, some of which dates back several years. The hi human interface control system can seamlessly control and improve the workflow, while also making the configuration of panels, UMD, tally and routing possible in-house and on location, removing the need for external engineering support.

‘The integration of hi human interface has simplified the workflow in the OB unit,’ reports Head of Production Operations, Dheshnie Naidoo. ‘The technical team were pleasantly surprised at the ease of operation and seamless transition from the previous control system. Broadcast Solutions has revolutionised our operations with this system, and provided a steadfast approach during the commissioning.’

‘In contrast to awkward, over-complicated systems, hi human interface is as straightforward to use as its name suggests,’ says Broadcast Solutions UK MD, JP Delport. ‘hi human interface offers full cross-platform control and usability options for contemporary user interfaces such as smartphones, tablets and laptops. It can also simulate entire installations with a clear overview of proceedings. This is achieved by seamlessly incorporating the latest IP technology and standards, such as Dante and NMOS (Networked Media Open Specifications).

‘Integrating hi human interface with NMOS environments results in an auto-discovery and plug-play workflow worthy of the name. A highly flexible solution that can be adapted to individual needs and purposes whilst large and complex systems are visualised intuitively and stripped down to their essentials. hi human interface is also available in a compact version for smaller installations – we always match the application.’
