Stage Tec Aurus platinum mixing in NEP's new MusicOne

The Dutch NEP Group subsidiary has commissioned the new MusicOne OB truck, specifically equipped for recording concerts and music events with a Stage Tec Aurus platinum mixing system at the heart of its audio.

As artists increasingly look to – and currently need to – livestream concerts, the Dutch market found itself lacking a music OB truck with sufficiently high performance standards. NEP has closed this gap with the MusicOne – a spacious 12m-long truck is equipped with a soundproof sound control room, a production suite that can be converted into a video control room, and a roof terrace that can be used for stand-ups with the event as a backdrop or as a chill-out area.

NEP's new MusicOne OBThe mobile sound control room can be used anywhere in the world with a connection to NEP’s centralised production platform, and is suited to any formation and genre. The NEP R&D team, audio engineers and other music industry professionals worked together on the specifications and quickly decided on the Aurus platinum from Berlin-based Stage Tec.

The 48-fader mixing console uses three internal base units for connecting ample outboard, multitrack and play-out, while IP SMPTE 2110 supports the use of a Nexus network as the broadcast IP backbone. This is a particularly useful feature when the truck is equipped with a video flypack to be used as an OBV for other broadcast or live events. The Nexus system is completed with two mobile racks, each with 64 mic and return lines in various formats. Sharing a mobile rack pool is standard, as is multichannel 5.1.4 and 22.1.

Stage Tec does not use DSP bus limiting which results in always using the full 40-bit floating point without shifting processing power for more inputs. The result is better and consistent ‘clarity’ when mixing a variety of sources on the bus. Stage Tec’s TrueMatch inputs offer a dynamic range of 158dB, and do not require any analogue preamplification, which contributes significantly to noise reduction, especially when summing many channels. Without analogue signal amplification, every microphone becomes a digital microphone. An advantage the NEP audio team definitely appreciates.

The MusicOne is being used successfully on a weekly basis for both concerts and television shows, and also for enhanced audio production for Dutch Champions League football coverage.
