Lawo has announced the next generation of its compact, ‘all-in-one’ mc²36 audio production console.

With the native-IP A__UHD Core providing a new core for Lawo’s mc² consoles, 1,024 audio channels are provided in just 1U of rack space, along with dramatically reduced power consumption. This equated to performance that previously required five times the power and ten times the rack space. The new mc²36 more than doubles the DSP channel count of the original, as well as introducing an ultra-compact 16-fader version that delivers big performance in the smallest mc² footprint to date. A new feature, IP Easy, makes managing IP network devices simpler and more intuitive than previously possible.
Key features include I/O capacity of 864 channels, with local connections which include three redundant IP network interfaces, 16 mic/line inputs, 16 line outputs, eight AES3 inputs and outputs, eight GPIO connections, and an SFP Madi port. Powered by A__UHD Core, the mc²36 natively supports ST2110, AES67, Ravenna, and Ember+.

Lawo mc²36The console’s new 16-fader frame is the smallest and most lightweight, making it suited to mobile use or any tight mixing space. A 32-fader version is also available.

Many features and capabilities are retained from earlier console iterations, including Button-Glow and touch-sensitive rotary controls, colour TFT fader-strip displays, LiveView video thumbnails, and 21.5-inch full HD touchscreen controls. Full loudness control compliant with ITU 1770 (EBU/R128 or ATSC/A85) standard features peak and loudness metering are provided, and can measure individual channels as well as summing buses.

Remote Desktop integration allows seamless addition of third-party solutions such as recording systems and effects engines running on external PCs into the mc²36 user interface. Applications can be displayed in the console’s screen while the console’s keyboard, touchpad and touchscreen provide control.

Waves Plugin Integration. mc²36 offers best-in-class integration of Waves SuperRack SoundGrid, providing operators with access to Waves’ extensive plug-in selection of real-time signal processing in addition to the console’s internal processing engine. No additional screens or control devices are needed.

Lawo’s Phase II development of the A__UHD Core includes Lawo’s new IP Easy functionality, making IP set-up as easy as if they were baseband. The console automatically detects new devices and makes them available at the touch of a button. IP Easy manages IP addresses, multicast ranges, and VLANs, and includes security features like access control and quarantining of unknown devices to protect a network.

‘Lawo has always been known for innovation and performance, as well as maximum redundancy and reliability,’ says Lawo Senior Product Manager for Audio Production, Christian Struck. ‘With the simultaneous introduction of the new software package for A__UHD Core and the new mc²36, audio professionals will find themselves enjoying a whole new world of power, flexibility and ease-of use. This flexible, software-defined architecture is the platform from which many new and exciting developments will be launched.’
