Alcons Audio’s GR20 represents the latest addition to the Alcons G-Series, a family of systems developed for sound reinforcement in both portable and permanent installation applications.
Intended system applications extend from compact clubs and hospitality venues to houses of worship, theatres, corporate events and larger performance spaces where high fidelity, high output and precise projection control are required.
The heart of the GR20 system is the RBN620 pro-ribbon transducer, which offers a 1:1 non-compressed sound reproduction and clarity with up to 90% less distortion than a conventional mid/high transducer, due to low weight diaphragm and lack of a compression chamber. The 6-inch voice-coil of the RBN602 driver brings a remarkable dynamic headroom reserve with a 1:15 RMS-to-peak power handling ratio. It features a peak power handling of 1.25kW (200ms), creating a claimed ‘virtually infinite’ system headroom from 1kHz up. This headroom enables compensations without any audible stress on the high-frequency performance of the system, while maintaining full dynamics at high SPLs
The pro-ribbon transducer is married to custom-designed high-output woofers that use Active Coil technology for extremely low-distortion LF reproduction. The 80° × 50° constant-directivity dispersion of the GR20 provides highly controlled and predictable coverage up to the highest frequencies, ensuring consistent tonal balance throughout the listening area.
The horizontal directivity of the RBN mid-high frequency drivers offers a coherent horizontal pattern control with seamless coverage that widens the listening ‘sweet spot’ regardless of audience seating. The vertically symmetrical ‘clamshell’ configuration with two custom-designed 10-inch Neodymium mid-bass woofers extends the dispersion control down to the lower octaves.
This combination enables the GR20 to maintain sonic consistency and clarity across its operating bandwidth, even at elevated SPL levels, making the system particularly suited to use where precise coverage control, minimal off-axis coloration and maximum speech and music intelligibility are essential.
The constant directivity also guarantees a consistent reflected diffuse-field, resulting in a very coherent sound response, both direct and reflected, dramatically enhancing the natural hearing experience.
The response of the GR20 system can be extended through the addition of the GB181 low-frequency module. In larger configurations, the foundation of the system can be scaled by deploying multiple GB181 units, effectively extending bass output, headroom and control in line with system size and venue requirements.
The GB181 offers dedicated LF extension to provide deep, controlled and accurate bass reproduction in both portable and installed live sound reinforcement use. When used in multiples, it forms a scalable LF system that increases projection control and improves low-frequency definition, while significantly reducing the influence of room acoustics.
The GB181 is available in two versions – the standard GB181 for touring and the GB181i installation version for permanent systems, allowing integration in both mobile and fixed sound reinforcement environments.
