Outboard/Plug-ins

Solid State Logic has announced Acoustifier, a DI-to-mic simulation plug-in that aims to transform an acoustic guitar DI signal into a studio-quality recording.

Intended for use by studio professionals, musicians and performers, Acoustifier replicates professionally recorded acoustic guitar tracks for situations where capturing a guitar’s natural tone with high-quality microphones is not practical.According to its maker, ‘by emulating the sound of a dual-microphone set-up, Acoustifier is able to enhance a dry guitar tone with its advanced DI-to-microphone modelling and onboard SSL EQ, compression and reverb’.

Solid State Logic AcoustifierMatching a guitar to the appropriate acoustic body type delivers an authentic DI-to-mic simulation, with a choice of four models – two dreadnought variations, a jumbo/large body and a concert/orchestra model. The are then paired with a choice of three classic microphone types – dynamic, condenser or ribbon. A range of mic configurations is available, including XY and spaced pair set-ups, with the option to blend body and neck microphones.

Acoustifier includes an EQ and real-time frequency analyser, designed for quick and effective tone shaping, eliminating the need for additional plug-ins in the signal chain. At its core is a quick-access tilt band, for shifting the tonal balance toward the high or low end. For more precise control, Acoustifier’s EQ features high-pass and low-pass filters, along with three customisable mid bands. All adjustments are made via an intuitive, node-based EQ graph, complete with a frequency analyser for real-time visual feedback.

Acoustifier features a reverb engine that adds depth, space and authenticity to a dry guitar signal. Derived from SSL FlexVerb’s ‘mix-ready’ algorithms, this offers a selection of room, chamber, plate and hall reverb types, delivering studio-grade ambience directly from Acoustifier’s interface.

To maintain clarity and focus, Acoustifier also includes an integrated reverb ducking feature. This dynamic control reduces the reverb level in response to the guitar, whether sourced from the DI path, a pre-reverb tap or an external sidechain.

Acoustifier also features an integrated compressor section, offering dynamics that range from subtle smoothing to aggressive tone shaping. The Auto-Gain feature level-matches adjustments, with further control from a dedicated Mix control for parallel compression blending. Additionally, a compressor can be placed post-reverb.
