Having previously worked with Chris Lord-Alge on the rackmount Bluey FET Limiting Amplifier, a modern remake of his favoured UA 1176, boutique audio company Black Lion Audio has announced the Bluey 500 – a 500-Series rackmount alternative.

Black Lion Audio Bluey 500Lord-Alge relied on a rack of original 1176 peak limiters to work his hit musical magic, and discovered that one exhibited ‘a certain something’ that the others did not. In creating the new unit, Black Lion Audio studied Lord-Alge’s beloved ‘Bluey’ to gain an understanding of what made it sound special. The company’s diagnosis revealed that the ‘happy accidents’ and fixes made over the years to keep it in working order had ultimately created the monster 1176.

As a result, Black Lion Audio has succeeded in creating commercially viable unit available to all as the Bluey FET Limiting Amplifier with Chris Lord-Alge’s blessing.

It offers the same Input, Output, Attack, Release, Comp Mix, Ratio and Meter) controls, while features and I/O are also intact along with a new front-panel RCA jack to allow a stereo linking.

Black Lion Audio has used custom Cinemag transformers and recreated the Lord-Alge console insert path and built it into Bluey 500, to provide its users with that same feel as is using that particular console.

Bluey 500 is available to purchase via Black Lion Audio’s global network of dealers/distributors at an MAP of US$699 and an SSP of €932 (including VAT).
