Joining the recently released Oracle console, Solid State Logic (SSL) has unveiled its Odyssey large-format recording and mixing console. ‘redefining what is possible in analogue production’.
Using by SSL’s ActiveAnalogue technology, Odyssey combines the sound, workflow, and tactile experience of an analogue console with complete Instant Recall, expanding SSL’s Future Analogue platform. Odyssey reckons to remove one of the last remaining barriers in analogue production – slow, disruptive and potentially inaccurate recall. Engineers can instantly restore, compare, revise and switch between complete console states, transforming how tracking, overdubbing, mixing, stem creation, immersive production, and client revisions are handled.
‘We’ve taken the revolutionary analogue Instant Recall philosophy introduced with Oracle and expanded it into a no-limits modular console platform with full channel processing and Large and Small Fader,’ says SSL Director of Special Projects, Niall Feldman. ‘Odyssey gives engineers everything they love about analogue sound and workflow of a familiar in-line console, while removing the compromises that have historically slowed large-scale productions. It’s a console designed to move at the speed of creativity.’
Odyssey channels combine SSL PureDrive microphone preamplifiers with Drive control, fully analogue dynamics, switchable E and G Series EQ, assignable high-pass and low-pass filters, insert points and motorised dual-fader control. Odyssey’s modular architecture allows studios to configure systems ranging from 24+8 channels to 96+8 channels, with straight-frame, curved ProStation and custom frame options available, including integrated patchbay and producer bays.
All analogue circuitry is housed within dedicated remote processing racks, allowing installation flexibility.
Odyssey’s centre section unifies monitoring, routing, mix control, bus processing, communications, automation, DAW integration and immersive workflows. Integrated The Bus+, Analogue Dynamic EQ, advanced DAW control and support for immersive monitoring systems, including Dolby Atmos renderer control, provide flexibility across tracking, mixing and postproduction. Supporting the console is SSL’s O-Control Application Suite and O-Motion Automation System, delivering offline session preparation, project and snapshot management, complete console recall and DAW-based automation.
In addition to supporting Odyssey’s new features and functionality, O Series v2.0 delivers workflow enhancements for Oracle users. Full project compatibility between Future Analogue consoles allows projects created on Odyssey to be opened directly on Oracle, enabling seamless movement between studios and production environments. Version 2.0 also introduces advanced Snapshot filtering, O-Motion DAW Plug-In automation and Odyssey’s TouchView dynamics display to Oracle, providing greater recall flexibility, deeper DAW integration, and enhanced visual feedback during mixing.
