Solid State Logic has announced SSL Connex, a USB microphone for conferencing, live streaming and portable music recording, using DSP taken from its own studio and broadcast production tools.

Compatible with MAC/PC and USB equipped tablets, SSL Connex is also suitable for podcasting and live streaming. Measuring 90mm x 90mm x 40mm, Connex can be used on a flat surface or easily mounted to a microphone arm or camera stand.

Solid State Logic Connex‘SSL Connex is the ultimate portable problem solver for today’s fast-paced digital age,’ says Solid State Logic CTO, Enrique Perez. ‘Whether you are a remote worker, an international jetsetter, an inspired content creator or a musician, SSL Connex is an extremely high-quality solution that will help deliver and capture your ideas with immediacy and clarity.’

SSL Connex uses a quad microphone array that is acoustically decoupled and powered by studio quality sound processing/DSP. Four tailored user modes are available to achieve the best sound in any scenario.

Solo mode is optimised for a single sound source from the front of the unit (conference/WHF calls or live streaming with a single presenter), rejecting sound from the rear and side faces.

Group mode is designed for multiple sound sources (roundtable conference calls and live streaming with multiple presenters) allowing all speakers to be clearly heard and unwanted background noise eliminated.

Vocal mode is for when inspiration hits – using SSL EQ and dynamics processing algorithms to enhance a recording or live stream, Vocal mode will reject sound from the sides and rear.

Music mode is designed for a group of musicians positioned around SSL Connex, intelligently adjusting the sensitivity of the microphone array to reduce the noise floor and unwanted background noise. Music mode accepts louder signals as commonly found on acoustic instruments.

All four of the above modes feature an advanced Immersive recording mode, which allows access to each of the four individual mic sources for immersive and spatial recordings or broadcasts.

The front of Connex carries a high-quality 3.5mm headphone output to feed headphones during video calls and recording sessions. This output also has a loopback option for ambient 'room' monitoring. A touch-sensitive interface at the top of the unit provides options to adjust headphone levels, microphone muting, push-to talk, and the ability to cycle through the four DSP modes, as well as accessing immersive mode. A back-lit, colour panel allows users to identify both the microphone mute state and which DSP setting is currently active.

SSL Connex is priced at a RRP/MSRP of US$199.99 with an introductory price of US$149.99.
