Introduced a decade ago, the third generation of Mackie’s Creative Reference active studio monitors has been launched for ‘producing music, gaming, video editing, casual listening or partying’.
The new Mackie CR Series models claim a fresh visual design and new capabilities, retaining their use of silk dome tweeter with a protective grille and woven-fibre woofers to be available in 3.5-inch, 4.5-inch, 5.25-inch and 8-inch sizes.
‘When we introduced CR in 2014 they were an overnight success,’ says Product Manager, Ty Vaughn. ‘Over time, we noticed the speakers extending beyond their intended purposes with musicians and content creators, appearing on bookshelves, or hooked up to vinyl record players, so we baked that right into the product. This iteration of CR balances the nature of work and play by giving flexible features that shape your sound based on your use case. They are perfect for any situation, and are truly your “everything’ speakers”.’
The CR Series monitors feature a tone control knob, placed on the front for easy access, letting users ‘shape’ the sound instantly. The knob starts with the flat response of reference monitors and progressively boosts the bass and adds high-end for use as immersive gaming speakers, casual listening speakers or party speakers.
Using the location switch on the rear, CR Series loudspeakers can also adapt to placement. Desktop Mode is for listening up close, while Bookshelf M isode for listening at a distance.
Mackie CR Series loudspeakers can be connected to audio interfaces and playback devices with TRS, RCA and 3.5mm input connectors, or switched to quiet listening with the built-in headphone output. The ‘BT’ models can also be paired with smartphones, laptops and other Bluetooth devices for streaming wirelessly.
