Working on some of the worlds largest live and broadcast events around the globe, US company NEP provides outsourced production solutions offering technical services including remote production, studio production, video display, host broadcasting and postproduction. Commissioning a new remote production truck dubbed SSCBS, two RedNet D64R units have been used provide up to 64 bi-directional channels of coaxial and optical Madi interfacing with other Dante-enabled devices and systems, as well as serving as a bridge to its intercom system.

Intended primarily for use on major PGA and NFL events, SSCBS truck represents a substantial change in technology culture, according to NEP Design Engineer Michael Naugle: ‘We’ve used CobraNet for years, so we’re familiar with the concept of audio-over-IP, but Dante is our first delve into this generation of audio networking, and RedNet is our interface of choice for that,’ he explains.

Naugle acknowledges that the traditionally conservative broadcast culture is usually slow to adoptnew platforms, so the move to Dante networking depended heavily on the reliability of the interfaces. But alongside reliability RedNetw will introduce digital networking into existing remote-production trucks, offering a bridge between legacy Madi-connected systems and the network. ‘It’s a way forward not just for new trucks but for the entire fleet,’ he says.
