Waldorf’s latest compact and affordable string and pad synthesiser, Crema is a a bi-timbral, polyphonic string/pad synth that promises to ‘add warmth, movement and atmosphere to your music’.
Based on the synthesis architecture of Waldorf’s own Streichfett, Crema expands this concept into the digital era. While Streichfett captures the character of analogue string machines of the 1970s – such as the Elka Rhapsody, Solina String Ensemble and Freeman String Symphonizer – Crema adds the digital pads that emerged during the 1980s and ’90s. It further enlarges the sound palette through wavetable synthesis, FM synthesis and dual effects, including a dedicated ‘shimmer’ reverb. Its operation employs two layers with independent engines, flexible routing and effects.
Together, the Streichfett ensemble, dual effects shimmer ’verb and the Crema’s Flavour knob bring depth, character and organic movement to its sound.
Additionally, there is a built-in arpeggiator, step sequencer, MPE support, and more than 130 factory sounds and 360 preset slots that can be readily managed through the free Chutney librarian app. Connections include USB-C, Midi, stereo audio outputs an quarter-inch jacks and a dedicated headphone output.
