Mutec has announced the MC1.2+ bi-directional DDC (digital-digital converter), offering comprehensive digital audio format conversion for professional music producers and mixing engineers, as well as audiophiles at home.

Mutec MC1.2+ bi-directional DDC‘We have constantly received requests for the original MC1.2 interface, which had been an important part of our portfolio for many years but was discontinued in 2018,’ says company CEO, Christian Peters. ‘So we decided to produce a new version, in which we were able to optimise performance at key points. We are therefore confident that the all-new MC1.2+ will be successful in a highly competitive market.’

The MC1.2+ converts PCM audio streams through its USB, AES/EBU, AES3/EBUid and S/P-DIF interface ports. This process can be performed simultaneously – also via USB – in both directions for applications professional recording, broadcast and as part of a sound reinforcement system.

In addition, the format converter uses low-noise audio clock oscillators to improve the USB audio stream by regenerating the signal and isolating the USB power supply. The noise previously added by the power supply via the USB interface can no longer impair the digital signal processing. This leads to a significant reduction of digital phase noise and jitter.

Key features:

  • Bi-directional real-time signal transfer and conversion.
  • Multiple interface ports: USB, AES/EBU, AES/EBUid, S/PDIF.
  • Custom-designed asynchronous USB interface with very low latency.
  • Improves the sound quality of audio stream.
  • Low noise audio clock oscillators.
  • Internal, external and USB-bus power options.
  • USB Audio Class 2.0 driver for Windows.
  • Supports ASIO, MME, DirectSound, WASAPI, Kernel Streaming, PCM 16-bit/24-bit, 44.1kHz/192kHz.
  • Works with MacOS, Windows, Linux.

The Mutec MC1.2+ is available with either black or silver front panel at an RRP of retail price of €749 (including VAT). It will become available from authorised dealers during Q3 2024.
