Expanding its range of studio microphones for content creators, streamers and bloggers, Yamaha has launched the YCM705 condenser microphone for voice, vocals and music production.
The YCM705 is a larger, more professional sibling to the entry-level YCM01, which has been a popular solution for content creators since its launch in 2023, and is primarily aimed at musicians who want to ‘showcase themselves and their instruments to their best advantage’. Designed to capture the sound of the popular acoustic guitar/vocals, singer-songwriter set-up, it is equally effective with other instruments, from strings to percussion.
At the heart of the YCM705 is its condenser capsule, featuring a gold-sputtered 1-inch diaphragm. The precision crafted transducer captures subtle nuances of playing and singing, reproducing them with authenticity and musicality, while the cardioid polar pattern focuses capture on the desired source, effectively eliminating background.
Additional features include a high-pass filter, which eliminates low frequency noise. Depending on the application, the filter can be switched between 80Hz and 160Hz. Meanwhile, if particularly loud signals are being captured, such as drums or guitar amplifiers, switchable two-stage pre-attenuation allows the 120dB maximum sound pressure level (SPL) to be increased to 130dB or 140dB – more than sufficient headroom for almost all musical applications.
The Yamaha YCM705 is offered as a package that includes a pop filter to reduce plosive sounds, a spider for decoupling and precise alignment, with matching replacement rubber rings and a thread adapter to ensure compatibility with any standard microphone stand. The microphone can be stored and transported in the included bag.
The YCM705 will be available in black or white finish from August 2025. The recommended retail price is €399 (excl. VAT).
